On December 14th, Arshia, one of our grad students of space engineering major, build a replica of a satellite which demonstrated how a space laser ground station -that is a vital component for communication system- works. Laser beams, these ground stations facilitate high-speed data transmission, enabling a more efficient and secure means of communication in comparison to traditional radio frequency communication. These ground stations typically consist of precise optical systems for transmitting and receiving laser signals, specialized tracking systems to maintain alignment with orbiting satellites, and sophisticated data processing equipment to handle the high-speed optical data. As space missions increasingly [...]
Now in Bulgaria 🇧🇬! Dr. Mehran Mirshams the head of the space research laboratory has been invited to present two seminars, by Sofia Technical University (STU). STU is one of the Bulgarian lead universities in the field of Aero engineering. The Aero-Transport faculty of STU is going to run Space System Engineering Master program to make foundation for future space related programs in the country. Two presented seminars has been designed as warmups for students and staff at the University. The first one “ CubeSat Hands on Training Package “ was about SRL and it’s simulators. The second one “ [...]
Morteza Abbasi, the Executive Manager of the Space Research Lab, has reached a significant milestone in his career by attaining the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI). The PMP certification is a globally recognized credential for professionals in the field of project management. What is the PMP Certification? The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is one of the most respected and widely recognized certifications in the world for project managers. It is awarded by the Project Management Institute, a global organization dedicated to advancing the practice of project management. Why is it Important? Achieving the [...]
Designing the Trajectory of the Exploratory Mission to the Moon In a groundbreaking research project led by Saba Amjadian under the supervision of Dr. Mehran Mirshams and the guidance of Dr. Mehdi Jafari Nadooshan, the trajectory of an exploratory mission to the moon has been meticulously designed. This research seeks to address the overlooked aspects of the moon's formation mechanism and its potential as a testing ground for new technologies in planetary exploration. The study reviews past information and discoveries to shed light on the significant facts about the moon and its formation mechanism that have been ignored. Furthermore, the [...]
Title: Feasibility of using supercapacitor in the design of cubesat electric power subsystem By Katayoon KankiaSupervisor: Dr. Mehran MirshamsChairmen: Dr. Ehsan Zabihian Dr. Mahdi Jafari Nadoushan (K. N. Toosi University of Technology)September 20, 2023 Nowadays, given the appropriate performance of small satellites, there is a need to increase the storage capacity of electric power in the design and construction of these satellites by our beloved country, Iran, as payloads become more complex. This research focuses on designing and implementing a subsystem for electric power for a 1U CubeSat using supercapacitors in the energy storage section. To do so, first, statistical [...]
On September 12, 2023, Shahram Keshavarzi successfully defended his thesis on "Autonomous Optical Navigation of Interplanetary CubeSats" at K. N. Toosi University of Technology. The thesis, supervised by Dr. Mehran Mirshams and advised by Dr. Alireza Hoseini Arani, presents a general approach for optical tracking and navigation of spacecraft without access to ground-based distance measuring sources. The thesis argues that the recent expansion of CubeSat satellites challenges the traditional paradigm of mission planning for space exploration, which relies on determining the Earth orbit to guide the spacecraft towards the mission objective. With the increase in the total number of spacecraft [...]
APSCO CubeSat Competition (ACC) was kicked off!! The first online workshop has been launched by lecturers from Iran, China and Pakistan. More than 130 participants from all Member States have joined the workshop. Mehran Mirshams the head of SRL presented two lectures: 1- Attitude Determination and Control Subsystem over view and basic concepts, 2- Introduction to Orbital Mechanics.
